The ballot counting for the UVSS referendums has now finished. All five referendum questions succeeded in passing.

Do you support establishing a dedicated fee for the purpose of funding an independent UVSS elections office in the amount of $0.45 per part time student per semester and $0.90 per full time student per semester?
Yes: 583 (52.0%)
No: 539 (48.0%)
Do you support establishing a dedicated fee for the purpose of organizing special events for students on campus in the amount of $0.25 per part time student per semester and $0.50 per full time student per semester?
Yes: 747 (65.2%)
No: 399 (34.8%)
At no cost to students, do you support reducing the Building and Capital fund by $4 per full time student per semester and $2 per part time student per semester and reallocating this amount to the UVSS Operations Fund?
Yes: 907 (80.1%)
No: 225 (19.9%)
Do you support a gradual increase of funding for the operations and services provided to students by the UVSS in the amount of 20¢ per part time student and 40¢ per full time student per semester each semester for the next three years?
Yes: 796 (69.7%)
No: 346 (30.3%)
Do you support the establishment of a new student fee in the amount of 95¢ per semester for full time students and 45¢ per semester for part time students to be allocated to UVic Pride?
Yes: 681 (59.3%)
No: 468 (40.7%)
It would appear that roughly 1150 students participated in these UVSS Referendums. This represents a turnout of 7.0% of the UVSS membership.

7% that's really bad. Someone should have run some "no" sides and there would have been a better reflection of the student's will.

Really bad, but not surprising for a referendum outside of the election period.
ReplyDeleteIt would have helped if the Martlet gave the referendums the same kind of coverage they gave sororities at the AGM. All I saw was James Coccola's letter to the editor in the current edition. I'm sure a lot of students never knew it was happening.
